Root canals aren’t fun, but there’s no need to worry. Our experienced dental team wants you to know a root canal doesn’t have to be an anxiety-ridden, excessively painful experience. The accomplished dental group at our office does root canals regularly.

At Dr Rita Patel, Family Dentistry, we make it our priority to help all of our patients get the best dental treatment that they need to live a healthy lifestyle. One of our aims is to provide you with premium dental service at the most affordable price. We offer additional dental services that manage more complicated dental complications, like root canals. Whether you’re an individual or taking care of an entire family, we provide root canal treatment to help every type of patient get what they need.

Our root canal treatment is an often straightforward procedure to relieve dental pain and save your teeth. Typically, patients need a root canal treatment when there is inflammation or infection in the roots of a tooth. During root canal treatment, our experienced team of endodontists carefully removes the pulp inside the tooth, cleans, disinfects and shapes the root canals, and places a filling to seal the space.

Symptoms of an infected tooth

If you don’t go for immediate treatment for the infected tooth, you might experience a significant amount of discomfort. An infected tooth pulp may cause inflammation. Symptoms of a diseased tooth pulp may include:

  • unprovoked or spontaneous pain
  • sensations to hot and cold drinks & foods
  • pain when biting or chewing
  • loosening of the tooth
  • swollen gum near the affected tooth
  • oozing of pus surrounding the affected tooth
  • facial swelling

However, sometimes, tooth pulp may become damaged without exhibiting any symptoms. In such cases, the problem is usually revealed by x-rays during a dental check-up or treatment for other dental concerns.

Treatment Procedures

Our dentist will listen to your symptoms, examine your teeth, and perform other investigations, including taking x-rays. These x-rays also help us to plan for the root canal treatment by revealing the number, size, shape, and depth of the roots, which shows how complicated the procedure may be.

Based on our experience and state of the art equipment, a root canal treatment procedure has been simplified, and it takes two or more appointments to complete. During treatment, our endodontist will help you with a temporary filling to protect the root canals between appointments.

After this, your dentist removes the infected and damaged pulp, then washes away any debris from the area. After all unhealthy element is removed, the dentist either seals the tooth or inserts a temporary filling to shield the tooth until you visit for a permanent crown. It is not unusual for a meager portion of your temporary filling to break off, but it is nothing to worry about. You may encounter some pain for some days after a root canal appointment. To control any discomfort, please take prescribed medication for the indicated length of time, even if all signs and symptoms of infection have disappeared.
